About

Top Education Institute (TOP) has been a leader in innovative private higher education since 2009, specialising in business and accounting degrees through the Sydney City School of Business, and law degrees through the Sydney City School of Law. Our business degrees are offered at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and recognised by the three major accounting bodies in Australia: CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and the Institute of Public Accountants. Our B Laws (LLB) is accredited by the Legal Profession Admission Board, allowing our graduates to be granted admission into legal practice in Australia.

Our campus is located in the Australian Technology Park, a heritage site close to Sydney’s central business district. TOP’s teaching and learning facilities are excellent, with high-quality teaching staff, a modern library with e-books and e-journals, modern classrooms, open spaces, student support staff and student facilities such as cafés and recreation areas.

The TOP-PwC Australia alliance is a collaboration between two innovative leaders. Under the alliance, PwC Australia provides a variety of services to TOP to expand its academic courses and non-academic programs, including the CareerFit student career development program and executive education programs, and designs ‘smart campus’ and digital education solutions.

International Year 12 students apply directly to TOP.

Top Education Institute and PwC Australia have entered into an alliance agreement.

PwC and PwC Australia refers to the Australian member of the PwC global network. Each member firm is a separate legal entity. Please see PwC structure for further details. Read the full disclaimer.

Policies and Services

Admission criteria

To be eligible for admission to study in a course at TOP, applicants must meet at least one of the conditions outlined below and English language proficiency requirements.

Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)

To be eligible for admission to TOP Education Institute, a 2018 or 2019 Year 12 student must:

  • have completed the equivalent of the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) examination in Australia or New Zealand, achieving a level equivalent to an indicative ATAR of 85.00 for B Laws or 50.00 for B Applied Finance and Accounting/B International Business, or
  • have passed the International Baccalaureate examination with a result of 35 points or higher.
Selection rank adjustments

Selection rank adjustments may allow 2019 Year 12 applicants to receive an offer to a program even though they have an ATAR below the published lowest selection rank.

Equity adjustments

TOP has an Educational Access Scheme (EAS) to assist applicants whose education has been disadvantaged (including financially disadvantaged) by circumstances beyond their control for a substantial period of time.

To apply for EAS you must be able to demonstrate that your Year 11 and/or Year 12 studies have been negatively affected for a period of at least six months, as a result of circumstances beyond your control or choosing. You must also be:

  • a UAC applicant for undergraduate admission
  • an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident of Australia.
Disadvantaged Schools Entry Scheme

This is open to applicants from schools that have been designated as disadvantaged. Applicants from these schools will combine the adjustment factors in the calculation of the ATAR. As part of the selection process some applicants may be required to attend an assessment workshop and an interview with senior academic advisers in TOP to ensure that they have the aptitude to complete the degree program.

Location adjustments

These adjustments acknowledge an applicant’s proximity to TOP’s location.

Subject adjustments

These adjustments reward an applicant’s academic performance in subjects undertaken as part of the HSC or equivalent.

Elite athletes' program

This is a special entry program to support elite athletes in their study and aims to help them achieve their academic and personal potential. Adjustment factors are awarded to applicants under this program depending on their level of sporting representation. As part of the selection process some applicants may be required to attend an assessment workshop and an interview with senior academic advisers in TOP to ensure that they have the aptitude to complete the degree program.

Criteria that may apply in addition to ATAR

TOP organises interviews with every LLB applicant in order to assess their potential, abilities and drive to become a lawyer. LLB applicants are also required to submit a 500-word statement outlining why the applicant wishes to pursue a degree in Law.

TOP School of Law admission criteria.

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study

One of the following:

  • pathway study program in TOP or a recognised Australian higher education provider with a credit or higher average score
  • Tertiary Preparation Certificate with a credit or higher average.

Applicants with overseas qualifications

There are commonly accepted overseas secondary qualifications that TOP may take into consideration. Check your qualification.

Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia with overseas qualifications must contact TOP to discuss eligibility for admission before submitting an application with UAC.

English Language Proficiency

If you have overseas secondary or tertiary qualifications from countries where English is not the language of instruction, you must provide evidence of English language proficiency.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants

TOP Indigenous Entry Program

The TOP Indigenous Entry Program is an equity initiative aimed at increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation within Bachelor degrees. It provides opportunities to Indigenous Australians who may not have completed their HSC or acquired the necessary score for entry into their degree of choice. As part of the selection process, some applicants may be required to attend an assessment workshop and an interview with senior academic advisers in TOP.

To request further information, email admission@top.edu.au.
