Admission criteria

All applicants

While each program has indicative academic standards that should be met, the admission criteria against which your application will be assessed are much broader. We also consider you as a person - who you are, what you have done and what you want to do with your life.

All applicants will need to meet the following. Applicants who do not meet the minimum admission requirements for their undergraduate program preferences, will be automatically considered for a Pathway program

  • A minimum of 17 years of age at the time of enrolment if you hold an Australian passport.
  • Satisfying the University's English language proficiency requirements.
  • A broad assessment of your personal qualities, your capacity to successfully complete your chosen program or course, and your capacity to contribute as a member of the University’s community.
  • Academic requirements for your desired program, based on your previous study.
  • Any specific program requirements.

Applicants with Higher Education study

For many programs, if you have completed at least six months of a university undergraduate degree, you can use these to apply to study at UNDA.

For example, programs in Arts & Sciences and Business require a minimum of 2 successfully completed subjects. Programs in Education, Nursing, and Philosophy & Theology require a minimum of 4 successfully completed subjects.

Successful completion of a recognised Enabling Program at a level deemed sufficient by the university or the Notre Dame Tertiary Pathway can also be used to apply for some programs.

Applicants with Vocational Education and Training (VET) study

If you have a Certificate IV qualification or higher in a relevant discipline from a recognised provider, you are eligible for admission to many of our programs.

For admission to Notre Dame’s Law and Education programs, a diploma qualification or higher in a relevant discipline will be required.

Applicants with work and life experience

Applicants with relevant work and life experience may seek admission on the basis of:

  • significant experience (minimum of two years) that demonstrates readiness for higher education, such as professional experience, community involvement or work experience relevant to the program
  • a completed enabling course, including Notre Dame’s Tertiary Pathway Program
  • STAT results.

Applicants with recent secondary education

Australian Year 12 students

If you are a 2022 or 2023 Year 12 student, admission will be based on a selection rank comprised of your ATAR (or equivalent) and any applicable adjustment factors.

Your Year 12 results do not expire; however, if you have gone on to tertiary education, we will also consider your results from these studies.

Selection rank adjustments

At Notre Dame we value the whole person and offer a range of adjustment factors which are applied to an applicant’s ATAR to provide a selection rank for admission.

Equity adjustments

Notre Dame has an Educational Access Scheme (EAS) for students who have experienced long-term educational disadvantage due to circumstances beyond their control. EAS applications are processed centrally through UAC.

Individual factor adjustments

At Notre Dame, we consider the whole person and recognise non-academic achievements. In your application you will be invited to provide details of your personal qualities, experience and contribution to community life.

Subject performance

Adjustment factors are applied for excellent performance in areas of study that are related to your chosen program.

Enrolment

Acceptance of offer

We will send you an offer via email or post, which will include instructions on how to accept the offer.

Advanced standing and credit transfer

Advanced Standing is credit granted towards a degree program for study already undertaken. By giving recognition to prior learning, advanced standing prevents the unnecessary duplication of study and can save time and money.

The availability of advanced standing does not guarantee entry into a particular course. In some cases there are high levels of competition for places and in other cases applicants may need to have fulfilled other requirements to gain entry. Detailed information on the awarding of Advanced Standing may be accessed from the University Regulations.

Deferment

When the University has made you  an offer of admission, you may accept the offer and then request to defer the commencement of your study.  Applications to defer commencement must be made to the Admissions Office in writing, and will be accepted until the close of business on the first day of Semester.
