Access & equity through VTAC (SEAS)

The University of Melbourne is committed to providing educational opportunities for students from a range of backgrounds. Access Melbourne is the University's special entry and access scholarship scheme and it can help you gain entry to the undergraduate course of your choice - even if your ATAR is below the selection rank normally required for an offer. Eligible students may also receive a guaranteed place at Melbourne in select degrees.

All eligible Access Melbourne applicants are automatically considered for a scholarship - no separate scholarship application is required. There are a number of scholarships available for eligible Access Melbourne applicants. Scholarships can assist you financially by covering tuition or accommodation fees for the duration of your degree. Applicants for or holders of an Australian temporary protection visa may also apply through SEAS to be considered for the Melbourne Humanitarian Scholarship.

If you are currently in Year 12 and you have experienced circumstances during Year 11 or 12 that have had an adverse impact on your academic performance, the University of Melbourne encourages you to apply for Year 11/12 Special Consideration by submitting a SEAS application under categories 2 and/or 4, indicating that the circumstances have only occurred during the final two years of secondary school. You should also note any compensation that you have already received from your school to help overcome your circumstances.

Access & equity outside of SEAS

Graduate Access Melbourne is the University of Melbourne's special entry and access scheme for graduate study, including the Master of Teaching. By submitting a Graduate Access Melbourne application, you can be assured that any circumstances that have affected your tertiary study will be considered when we assess your course application. When you are ready to apply for graduate study at the University of Melbourne, a Graduate Access Melbourne application could help you:

  • be accepted into the course of your choice
  • secure a Commonwealth Supported Place
  • or receive a scholarship or bursary.

Graduate Access Melbourne applications are considered by many of our graduate coursework degrees, including a range of professional entry degrees.

Indigenous students

Murrup Barak, Melbourne Institute for Indigenous Development is the central point of contact for Australian Indigenous people on campus. It provides a range of services, facilities and scholarships to eligible students. Refer to the VTAC Guide course entries for the Bachelor of Arts (Extended) and the Bachelor of Science (Extended). These courses provide a pathway for motivated Indigenous students who may not meet formal entry requirements.

Concurrent diploma

Concurrent diplomas in the areas of informatics, languages, mathematical sciences and music allow students to study the diploma alongside their bachelors degree. This will usually add a further year of study unless students take a 'fast track' to completion (with the potential to complete the diploma at the same time as their bachelors degree). Applications for concurrent diplomas are made directly to the University once students are enrolled in a bachelors degree.
