Access & equity through VTAC (SEAS)
Swinburne is committed, through the principles of equity, to increasing and enhancing practices and educational opportunities for students who have been unable to reach their full educational potential or whose access to the course of their choice may have been restricted because of life circumstances. This commitment is based on a philosophy of inclusion which characterises the university's approach to service provision for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Swinburne will consider applications from domestic students for SEAS categories one through four of the VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS), to allow applicants to be granted extra consideration for course selection where SEAS adjustments can be applied.
Access & equity outside of SEAS
Swinburne offers a regional adjustment for applicants from outer regional and remote communities. These applicants will automatically receive regional adjustment factors to their ATAR score if they:
- apply for a course for which assessment is based on ATAR
- are currently studying Year 12, or Year 12 is their highest level of study.
Swinburne will automatically apply regional adjustment factors to an applicant's aggregate score based on location. Applicants are not required to apply for this consideration.
For more information read about the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).
Swinburne also provides adjustment factors into selected bachelor level courses for current year 12 applicants who have completed at least one award category in Swinburne's Early Leaders Program. Subject adjustments will be automatically applied for eligible applicants. To see if your chosen course applies this adjustment please see the course search entry.

Non Year 12 students will be considered on a case-by-case basis. To view the course in greater detail including duration and how to apply please visit our course search page below for more information.
Bridging programs - MathsLink Further

To view the course in greater detail, including duration and how to apply, please visit our course search page.
Work experience
For some courses work experience will be considered as a basis of entry. For requirements around the type of work experience, duration and evidence required, please see individual course listings.

There are many pathway options for applicants at Swinburne, and students can transition from certificates and diplomas to degrees, from another institution to a Swinburne course, between courses at Swinburne and from school or the workforce.

- OET - Occupational English Test
- PTE - Pearson Test of English
- TOEFL iBT - Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet - based test) These tests need to be taken within the last two years to be considered for assessment.

In addition, some courses consider results from the STAT multiple choice test when non year 12 applicants have not met the 'Any Maths' prerequisite, and the STAT written English test for an 'Any English' prerequisite.
Validity of past studies
Applicants' incomplete and complete VET studies, for example advanced diploma, are considered if they were undertaken within the last 7 years. Incomplete bachelor level studies within the last seven years are also considered. All completed bachelor level studies will be considered for bachelor level studies. Applicants who are applying for our graduate entry teaching courses are required to have a completed bachelor within the last ten years. Additional information is listed for each course, please see individual course listings.
VCE Prerequisite units - validity period
Some courses list VCE units as prerequisite within their selection criteria. Mathematics units need to have been completed within the past five or ten years, depending on the course. Information about this is provided under each course listing. There are no restrictions for English and design-based courses around timings of prior study completion.
For more information, please see individual course listings.

Advanced standing
Applicants are able to apply for academic credit, which is also known as advanced standing, based on their prior study. Applicants are required to submit an application before they commence their studies and provide statements of academic achievement to support their application.
