About

The South Australian Institute of Business and Technology (SAIBT) and the University of South Australia enjoy a strong partnership that spans more than 18 years and has produced more than 6,000 successful graduates.

SAIBT provides Diploma programs in the areas of Business, Arts, IT, Engineering and Health Sciences. SAIBT Diploma programs are equivalent to first year Bachelor programs at UniSA and are recognised by many other well-known universities throughout Australia.

Located on UniSA’s main City East campus, SAIBT students have access to University facilities and study in a vibrant and diverse learning environment with small classes and personalised teaching. Its programs provide a proven pathway to more than 90 degrees at the university.

Internships with Adelaide based organisations are also available for SAIBT Diploma students.

Admission criteria

All applicants

Special consideration
Access and equity (Special Entry)

SAIBT may recognise alternative forms of qualification for entry which are targeted at improving access to students who have experienced disadvantage in accessing and participating in education and may provide special variations to the Admissions Entry Criteria to meet the need of individuals considered on a case by case basis.

Specific consideration given to the admission of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is covered in the Admissions Entry Criteria. Students granted special admission will be provided with appropriate academic support.

Adult Entry

Students who are 18 years of age or older may qualify for adult entry. Adult entry students may be admitted into a program without meeting the formal academic requirements if they have relevant work experience and/or other acceptable qualifications. Previous study in related fields may also be taken into consideration.

Entry pathways

Students can commence at SAIBT after year 11 or year 12, with a low or no ATAR result. After the SAIBT Diploma, students can apply to their chosen UniSA Bachelor program via SATAC.

English requirements

Students who have studied in schools with English Instruction for two years or more meet the minimum English Language Requirements, with the exception of students undertaking the Diploma of Health Sciences who will be asked to sit an additional English Test.

Age requirements

To commence study at the South Australian Institute of Business and Technology students must be at least 17 years of age.

Applicants with HE study

To be eligible for selection into a SAIBT diploma using your higher education qualifications, you are required to have fulfilled any prerequisite requirements and

- have commenced any higher education study or have enrolled in a higher education qualification or,

- Successfully completed a foundation qualification of 6 months or more

Applicants with VET Study

To be eligible for selection into a SAIBT diploma using your VET qualifications, you are required to have fulfilled any prerequisite requirements and - completed an award from a registered training organisation at Certificate III level or above.

Applicants with Work and Life experience

To be eligible for selection into a SAIBT diploma, you are required to have fulfilled any prerequisite requirements and met one of the following:

  • Successfully completed a non-recent SACE Stage 1 (year 11) qualification or equivalent, or
  • Completed a Special Tertiary Admissions Test (‘STAT’), or
  • Have sufficient employment experience

Applicants with a recent secondary education (Current, 2017 and 2018)

To be eligible for selection into a SAIBT diploma using your recent year 12 qualification you must have successfully completed a recent SACE Stage 1 (year 11) qualification or equivalent.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Specific consideration given to the admission of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is covered in the Admissions Entry Criteria (INDIVIDUAL EQUITY ARRANGEMENTS FOR ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER PEOPLES - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are invited to participate in the special entry process will meet with the Academic Director or Nominee and may be required to complete written and numerical tasks to assess the their eligibility for admission. The Academic Director or Nominee may provide additional support).

You may be entitled to credit for prior learning, whether formal or informal. Credit can reduce the amount of study needed to complete an award. Credit/Recognition for prior learning will be managed by SAIBT after you receive an offer.
