About

Sheridan Institute of Higher Education is an independent community of Christian scholars in the Perth CBD engaged in specialised teaching and research. Sheridan welcomes students from all faiths or none to complete their undergraduate or postgraduate degree in collaboration with Sheridan's academic staff.

Sheridan Institute of Higher Education is:

  • Nationally-recognised. Sheridan degrees are accredited by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA).
  • Not-for-profit. Sheridan is an incorporated association and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
  • Private. Sheridan is financially independent of state and federal funding. In place of HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP, domestic students can opt for private tuition finance organised by Sheridan’s parent not-for-profit association, Australian Baptist Education Inc.
  • Research-oriented. Students begin learning research skills in the first year of their undergraduate degree, and have an opportunity to collaborate with faculty on Sheridan research projects. In their final year, all undergraduate students complete a substantial research project of their own.
  • Conveniently located. Sheridan’s main campus is in the Perth CBD, adjacent to the train line and several bus routes. The Perth Cultural Centre and many city amenities are close by.

Baptist high school graduates – tuition-free pathway

Did you graduate from a Baptist high school in WA?

Each year, Sheridan reserves several tuition-free placements for graduates of Baptist secondary schools. Baptist graduates can complete any undergraduate or postgraduate degree offered at Sheridan and have no student debt at the end of their degree. You will only be asked to cover the costs of textbooks and field trips.

Why?

Sheridan was established as a direct result of support received from members of the Baptist education community. Sheridan wishes to recognise this support and to acknowledge the trust that families have place in the Baptist network of schools and colleges over many years.

This offer is extended to Year 12 graduates of any Baptist secondary school, past or present, in WA.

Admission Criteria

Sheridan’s application process is personal.

All prospective students, whether undergraduate or postgraduate, domestic or international, will be interviewed in person by the Sheridan admissions team. If you are applying from offshore, the interview will take place by phone or video interview. The admissions team make a final determination as to whether you will be offered a place in one of Sheridan’s courses only after the interview.

In addition to a successful interview, the following minimum admissions criteria must be met.

Domestic School Leavers

Completion of WACE and either achieving a minimum ATAR of 70 or completing a Certificate IV at a vocational training college in a subject relevant to the course you would like to take at Sheridan.

Sheridan welcomes early applications from students in Grades 9-12 who wish to secure a conditional place for one or more of Sheridan's courses while still at high school. If your personal goals change later in high school and you decide not to attend Sheridan, just let us know and we’ll open up your saved place to the next student on the waiting list.

Domestic Mature Age Students

Alternative entry

If you are at least 19 years of age and do not qualify for admission on the basis of formal educational attainment, you can apply via the alternative entry pathway which is based on an assessment of your employment experience, personal competencies and other qualifications.

Postgraduate

International Students

Undergraduate international students

The vocational education sector provides an alternative pathway into Sheridan undergraduate studies. Successful completion of a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a relevant discipline represents satisfactory evidence of English language proficiency for entry.

Postgraduate international students

International students must also demonstrate evidence of English language proficiency with an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0 (or equivalent in another internationally recognised English test). English proficiency can also be demonstrated with an undergraduate degree from an English-speaking country recognised in Sheridan’s Admissions Policy: English Language Proficiency, available on the Sheridan website.
