Admission criteria
All applicants
The University welcomes application from a variety of educational and life experience backgrounds.
Check the entry requirements for individual courses carefully. All applicants need to satisfy the University's English language requirements.
A personal statement may enhance the likelihood of admission for applicants with poor academic performance in your post-secondary or tertiary studies. If this is the case you should submit a Personal Statement to assist your application. The statement should be approximately 300 words in length and outline the circumstances that led to the poor performance and why those circumstances will not negatively impact any subsequent studies undertaken at Murdoch University.
Non Year 12 applicants for Veterinary Science or the Bachelor of Nursing must submit a Personal Statement and evidence of relevant work experience.
Applicants with Higher Education study
If you've successfully completed at least two units at an Australian university or one year of study at another recognised tertiary or higher education provider you can apply for most of our undergraduate courses.
Some of our courses have specific entry requirements for applicants with higher education.
If you've successfully completed one of our enabling course, you can apply for a number of courses at Murdoch. You can apply direct to Murdoch for admission in to any course with a minimum Selection Rank of 70.
Applicants with Vocation Education and Training (VET) study
If you've completed a Certificate IV or higher vocational education and training (VET) qualification, you may be eligible to apply to Murdoch.
Your VET course, in addition to demonstrated English competency, may enable you to apply to many of our courses, with the exception of Law and Veterinary Science.
For entry into Engineering, your VET qualification must be at diploma level or higher.
Applicants with work and life experience
If you haven't completed your secondary education in the past two years and have no Vocation Education Training (VET) or higher education study, you may still be eligible to study at Murdoch.
Even if it's been a while since you finished Year 12, your exam results are valid indefinitely. Scores obtained since 1992 can be converted to an ATAR using the TISC ATAR calculator. With the exception of Nursing and Veterinary Science, undergraduate courses at Murdoch have an admission pathway based on a minimum Selection Rank required for consideration. Your Selection rank includes your ATAR plus any eligible Selection Rank adjustments.
If you're at least 20 years old by 1st March in the year you wish to commence study, you can apply for entry to Murdoch by sitting the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). To apply for admission into most of our undergraduate courses, you'll need a STAT score of at least 140 in the Written English test and 135 in the Multiple Choice test (either verbal or quantitative). You cannot use the STAT to apply for entry to Law or Veterinary Science.
Applicants with recent secondary education
Have you completed your secondary education within the past two years? You may be eligible to study at Murdoch.
With the exception of Nursing and Veterinary Science, undergraduate courses at Murdoch have an admission pathway based on a minimum Selection Rank required for consideration. Your Selection Rank includes your ATAR plus any eligible Selection Rank adjustments.
