Admission criteria

Applicants with higher education study

Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Courses
  • Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master of Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care
  • Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master of Counselling.

Entry to the courses is based on evidence of a capacity to undertake higher degree studies including a:

  • Bachelor degree
  • Graduate degree
  • have an assessable qualification that was undertaken solely in English within the last five (5) years in Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Canada, Fiji, Ireland, Kenya, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, South Africa, the United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland), the United States of America or Zambia
  • have lived in an English-speaking country for at least ten (10) years with English being spoken at home and at work.

Applicants must attend an interview in which they demonstrate capacity for counselling or chaplaincy work, including self-awareness, a relational capacity, ability to work in a team, capacity for ethical behaviour and ability to reflect on experience, learn from it and be open to feedback.

Recognition of prior learning
Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Courses

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) or Advanced Standing (AS) may be granted from previous, successfully completed study or work experience. If students wish to apply for either AS or RPL they should discuss this with the Dean or Associate Dean at the time of interview. Applications for RPL and AS will not be considered after commencement.

With your application, please tell us about (and provide certified copies of official transcripts for) any prior counselling, or chaplaincy study you may have done. Contact the Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Administrator for further details and an application form.

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study, and Applicants with work and life experience

Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Courses

Applicants over 21 years of age who have not completed an undergraduate degree may be considered for admission if they provide evidence of educational and/or professional background deemed to be equivalent to an undergraduate degree. Such evidence would include non-tertiary study (i.e. VET or professional studies that are non-accredited), documented life experiences equivalent to an undergraduate degree, and/or work experience that would suggest the capacity for postgraduate study.

English language requirements
Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Courses

In order to be able to study at Morling College, fluency in English is required and international students from non-English-speaking backgrounds are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English. This will normally be through an IELTS test (Academic Version) scoring no less than 7.0 to be eligible for acceptance in our counselling courses. 

An applicant from a non-English-speaking background is not required to provide IELTS results when they:

  • have an assessable qualification that was undertaken solely in English within the last five (5) years in Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Canada, Fiji, Ireland, Kenya, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, South Africa, the United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland), the United States of America or Zambia
  • have lived in an English-speaking country for at least ten (10) years with English being spoken at home and at work.

Proof of IELTS exemption should be provided with application paperwork.

International students should contact the Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Administrator for further information.

How to apply

Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Courses

Before you are able to enrol in any Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care courses you must apply to Morling College to be admitted and fulfill all selection criteria. It is preferred that applications be received no later than 31 January for Semester 1 or 30 June for study commencing in Semester 2. However, applications received after this date will be processed where practically possible.

Applications Forms are available on the Morling website and should be sent to the Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Administrator, along with the required supporting documentation, (listed on page 3 of the application) as early as possible before the commencement of a new semester. Applications will include an interview, Working With Children Check (WWCC), and for counselling courses, psychometric testing to determine suitability.

Acceptance of offer

Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Courses

Students will be notified of their acceptance via a formal letter of offer.

Once you have been accepted as a student at Morling, you can complete the Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Enrolment Form, indicating which units you propose to study. Forms can be downloaded from the Morling website or Moodle. Forms may be posted or emailed to the Counselling, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Administrator, and must include signatures where requested. Please submit your enrolment as soon as possible after acceptance.

Morling College Events Coordinator

Morling College has an events coordinator who is responsible for organizing all events held by the College. These include activities targeting the Morling College population specifically (e.g. Graduation Ceremonies) as well as activities that target the broader community as well (e.g. the Spring Fair). The Events Coordinator plays an essential role in organizing and facilitating these events and plays an essential role in bringing the different parts of the community together.

Ezra Centre (on-site counselling service)

Counselling services are available to Morling College students and the wider community. Situated on the grounds of Morling College at Macquarie Park, our counselling rooms have a warm, welcoming, cottage-like atmosphere. The setting is discrete and confidentiality is of utmost importance.

Private health fund rebates, NDIS funded services, and employee assistance programs are available when the clinician and client are eligible to access the funding. Special arrangements can be made for clients experiencing financial hardship and Ezra will endeavour not to turn a client away due to financial constraints.

Morling residential accommodation

Morling Residential College (MRC) is a brand-new 100 bed student accommodation facility that opened in 2016. It is situated in Macquarie Park, and is within a 5 minute walk of Macquarie University, various bus and train services, and one of Sydney’s largest shopping centres, Macquarie Centre.

MRC aims to create a safe and welcoming environment where residents feel valued, have a sense of belonging, connect with others, learn, grow and succeed in their studies.

MRC offers a wide range of student accommodation options from catered to independent living at an affordable price.

MRC provides pastoral care to its residents, has an on-site Chaplain, provides student leadership opportunities, and organises events and social activities aimed at building a strong sense of community. MRC rejoices in the diversity of its student cohort and has many residents from all over the world.
