About
Monash is a university with a difference, and we’re proud of it. Our approach to education allows our students a study experience like no other, helping them to make a difference to their own lives and the lives of others.
The world is changing fast. If you’re at high school now, you may eventually choose an occupation that doesn’t yet exist. And you’ll almost certainly have several careers over your lifetime. That’s why we’ve designed our courses to give you the knowledge to confidently embark on a specific profession, plus the skills and networks to explore possibilities in your future.
Our suite of courses allow you to graduate with a focused, relevant, accredited qualification, and there are different programs for different learning styles. That's because the Monash way of learning is versatile and flexible, genuinely interdisciplinary and focused on career outcomes.
We often involve industry partners in course design and delivery so you can graduate at the forefront of industry knowledge. And, of course, we're researchers — we create knowledge as well as deliver it. That research feeds straight back into our classrooms, keeping you abreast of global academic developments.
Of course, university isn't just about study. Our goal is to enrich you academically, professionally and personally so that when you graduate, you're ready for anything.
If you're up for it, we have heaps of ways to help you stand out from the pack. You can spend time studying overseas or embark on one of our leadership programs, all of which differ in length and focus allowing you to choose the one that best suits your goals.
We can put you in touch with work placements and programs, internships and volunteer opportunities.
Add all this to the many groups, societies and events, and you have the opportunity to pack half a lifetime's experience into your four or so years on campus.
Monash is one of the world's top 100 universities. According to the Global Employability Rankings, leaders from the world's most successful companies consistently rate Monash as a preferred university from which to hire graduates.
But while our rankings and reputation mean we can compete with the 'traditional' universities, we don't plan on becoming one. We're a young university with a proud history of risk-taking and challenging the status quo. We think that gives us the best of both worlds — the qualities and reputation of an old-school university and the openness and ambition of youth.

Access & equity through VTAC (SEAS):
At Monash, we know that your ATAR might not accurately reflect your ability. Life can be a bumpy road, and there are all sorts of circumstances that can get in the way of your academic achievement. By considering your circumstances as part of your application, we create a level playing field for everyone who aspires to an exceptional education.
We operate two schemes - the Monash Guarantee and the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) - that can help you enter your preferred course.
The Monash Guarantee can get you into a Monash course even if you don't reach the lowest selection rank for your preferred course. You may be eligible for the Monash Guarantee if you have experienced financial disadvantage, are an Indigenous Australian, live in a low socio-economic area or attend a Monash under-represented school.
SEAS adjusts your ATAR in recognition of circumstances that may have affected your education. This gives you a better chance of getting an offer for the course you want. You'll receive ATAR-related adjustments depending on the severity of your circumstances. The adjustments are made to your combined study scores and your ATAR is recalculated. Monash uses this adjusted ATAR during the selection process.
We also offer a range of pathways for students who don't meet our course requirements.
Access & equity outside of SEAS:
The Monash Guarantee can get you into a Monash course even if you don't reach the lowest selection rank for your preferred course. You may be eligible for the Monash Guarantee if you:
- have experienced financial disadvantage,
- are an Indigenous Australian,
- attend a Monash University under-represented school, or,
- live in a low socio-economic area.
Every Monash course has a Monash Guarantee ATAR. You will find these listed on our website. The Monash Guarantee ATAR is lower than the expected lowest selection rank for that course.
For most courses, if you meet the criteria, achieve the Monash Guarantee and complete all course prerequisites, you will be offered a place at Monash.
Some courses have a range of selection criteria in addition to your ATAR, such as an interview or portfolio. For these courses, you will be guaranteed a place if you are successful in the additional selection criteria. Note: Health courses may also have restrictions due to availability of clinical placements. We will reserve a set number of places for students eligible under the Monash Guarantee. Offers will be made to students with the strongest results across the range of criteria.
Entry pathways
There's more than one way to become a Monash student. If your goal is to get a degree and use it to improve yourself, your community or the lives of others, Monash is the place for you.
