Admission criteria
All applicants
Special consideration
If you feel that you have special circumstances that may have disadvantaged you in your previous studies (e.g. a long-term medical condition), you may seek special consideration as part of the SATAC application process. If you request special consideration for your application you will be able to download a confidential questionnaire and information on the supporting documentation that is required to support your application. More information about applying for special consideration can be found on the Flinders University website.
Equity
The Universities Equity Scheme will apply adjustments in two ways: to all applicants in certain specified schools and to eligible applicants in other schools. Eligible applicants will receive 5 points in the calculation of their university aggregate. For more information visit:
Entry pathways
Whether you are a Year 12 student, a non-school leaver wanting to start your university studies, or you want to further your university studies, we offer a range of pathways to gain admission into Flinders.
Applicants with HE study
If you have completed the equivalent of at least one semester (full-time) but no more than the equivalent of two years (full-time) of a higher education course you may be considered for entry to most courses on the basis of your higher education results or any other qualifications that meet the University's entry requirements (e.g. Year 12 results or VET qualifications).
Students who have completed more than the equivalent of two years (full-time) of a higher education course will normally be considered for entry on the basis of their higher education results only.
Credit
Credit transfer is the process that allows students to seek recognition for prior studies. It is available for applicants who have completed or partially completed an award from another university or recognised higher education institution.
Applicants with VET Study
If you have completed a TAFE/VET Certificate III or higher, you will be eligible to apply for our undergraduate courses. Your study at TAFE/VET does not need to be related to your selected area of study at university. However, you will be ranked on the level of your TAFE/VET qualification – the higher your qualification, the more competitive you will be in obtaining admission to Flinders, and the course of your choice. For more information, read about applying with VET Study.
Flinders University offers guaranteed entry to selected courses via our TAFElink program. To be eligible for TAFElink you must have completed a TAFE/VET Certificate 4 or higher qualification and meet all course prerequisites.
Recognition of VET study
Credit transfer is the process that allows students to seek recognition for prior studies. It is available for applicants who have completed an appropriate level of qualification from TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
Applicants with Work and Life experience
Applicants with no formal qualification
Applicants who have not had the opportunity to gain access to university by traditional means may apply for entry through the adult entry pathway.
The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) is a multiple-choice test with 70 questions designed to test your verbal and quantitative reasoning. The questions will assess your ability to think critically about a range of subjects and to make sense of a variety of material. Some of our courses consider personal competencies and/or employment experience alongside a valid STAT score.
The Flinders Foundation Studies Program is a preparation pathway designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge to be successful at university. Successful completion of this program will guarantee you entry to a range of undergraduate degrees. You will also be eligible to apply for a number of other courses, however selection is competitive and you will be assessed on the basis of your academic performance. Flinders also recognises a range of Foundation Studies or tertiary preparation programs offered by other higher education institutions.

Applicants with a recent secondary education (Current, 2017 and 2018)
Minimum ATAR requirements
The majority of Year 12 applicants enter university using their ATAR via the traditional competitive entry method. The lowest selection rank required for admission will vary each year dependent upon the number of applicants and places available in the course. Flinders University offers guaranteed entry for most courses. Applicants competing on Year 12 qualifications with a selection rank equal to or above the nominated guaranteed entry selection rank (course prerequisites must also be met) are guaranteed a place at Flinders.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
The Indigenous Admissions Scheme provides an alternative pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, who may not have been able to gain entry to university by traditional means, with the opportunity to study at Flinders.
For more information, read about the Indigenous Admissions Scheme
Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications
If you have overseas qualifications, you will need to provide supporting documentation along with your application. Once you have submitted your online application you will be able to attach supporting documents online, or print a document cover sheet if you would prefer to provide your documents to SATAC in hard copy.
If any of your documents are in a language other than English, you must submit copies of both the original documents and the full translation. Copies of official transcripts and parchments may be attached to your online application as scans of original documents, however if submitting as hard copy, the documents must be certified copies. Transcript translations must show results for all subjects undertaken. All translations must be completed by an independent accredited translator.
English language proficiency for international students
