Access and equity through Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS)

Institutional access and equity

Principles of selection

At Deakin, selection will be based primarily on academic merit as indicated by the applicant's previous academic record. Applicants must satisfy relevant prerequisite studies and other specific entry requirements for their course of preference. The University has set an academic standard for each course at each campus. An applicant must meet the minimum academic requirements to be ranked for considered for selection into the course at a particular campus.

Education course requirements

The Faculty of Arts and Education requires all applicants for Education courses to sit the CASPer test. It is a non-cognitive online test designed to assess an applicant's personal and professional attributes.

Additional information

Applicants required to supply additional information should demonstrate a range of attributes, e.g. personal motivation, relevant experience or previous study, an understanding of the course and potential employment opportunities. VTAC Personal Statement NY12 Applicants should submit a VTAC Personal Statement if listed in the additional considerations for their course, particularly when they do not have any secondary or post-secondary academic results.

Applicants for nursing courses who are registered or eligible to register as an enrolled nurse are not required to sit the STAT MC.

Indigenous services

Deakin's Institute of Koorie Education has a community-based learning model that provides a holistic approach to education. It involves flexible delivery which is complemented by local tutors at the regional study centres.

Flexible study options

Deakin provides many study options. Full or part-time study, trimesters and the option to access most classes via the Cloud Campus using interactive online study methods.

English language proficiency

There is a minimum level of English proficiency required to study all of our courses. Generally, you can meet this requirement by demonstrating you've completed Year 12, or studied at a TAFE or university in English and in an English speaking country.

Credit for prior learning

Credit transfer allows you to count previous education or training in a similar field or topic towards part of a degree or other qualification. This can reduce the number of subjects you have to do to gain your qualification. You will need statements of academic achievement to support your request for credit.

Accommodation - Off campus housing service

The University offers an off campus housing service providing support for students looking for accommodation while they study at Deakin. The service maintains a housing database of properties available for rent for short term, long term, casual or temporary accommodation. The service also provides assistance with understanding your rights and responsibilities as a tenant and can assist you with completing rental forms and applications.

If you have a disability or long term medical condition which impacts on your study, you are strongly advised to discuss any services you might require with the student advisers in the Disability Resource Centre.

We look at scholarships a little differently at Deakin. Our aim is to acknowledge and reward the strength that got you to where you are today - be it academic prowess, contribution to the community, leadership skills, achievement in extracurricular activities, or perseverance and achievement despite hardship. We also offer scholarships that target students in a particular course, or from a particular region or background. Our scholarships are designed to not only make your time with us easier, so you can focus more on your studies without financial worries, but to create a legacy of excellence for you to carry with you throughout your career. A Deakin scholarship can cover all or part of your student contribution (tuition) fee, and/or provide a cash component to assist with the costs associated with studying. Selected scholarships offered by Deakin are available through the VTAC Scholarship Application.
