About
Campion College is the first liberal arts college in Australia. Like its counterparts in Europe and North America, Campion aims to educate its students to be leaders in society.
A liberal arts degree provides strong foundational knowledge in a wider range of subjects than degrees specialising in a single vocation. Through a core curriculum, a liberal arts degree teaches students how to interpret texts, articulate arguments, communicate effectively and think critically, transferable skills essential to any career.
Such an education is of powerful and enduring value, as shown by the effectiveness of graduates in the marketplace. For example, one-in-three Fortune 500 CEOs have a degree in the liberal arts. In addition, such graduates make a more informed decision when choosing their initial career path, gain admission to the most prestigious universities for postgraduate degrees and confidently navigate inevitable career changes.
Campion’s three-year degree takes students on a journey through Western Civilisation, beginning in Ancient Greece through to the present day. With a particular focus on history, literature, philosophy and theology.
Our Goal and Purpose
The mission of Campion is to provide a foundational education in the Liberal Arts that integrates the insights of faith and reason. Its vision is to be a University of Specialisation.
Campion College Australia is distinctive both educationally and religiously. In educational terms, the curriculum is based on the traditional liberal arts model, a proven educational structure that fosters the intellectual development of students, as well as preparing them for a career. It entails systematic and integrated study across the humanities, stimulating genuine freedom of thought by opening the mind to truth.
Religiously, it is recognisably Catholic in its affirmation of belief in the teaching authority of the Catholic Church. Students will receive a proper grounding in Catholic belief and thought, and be exposed to the richness of the Church’s spiritual, moral, intellectual and cultural traditions. More broadly, its authority safeguards the search for truth by keeping in balance a range of intellectual freedoms.
Sydney Campus
Campion College is located on a campus in Sydney’s west, at Austin Woodbury Place, Old Toongabbie. The property was originally a Marist Fathers’ Seminary and was bought some years ago by the Diocese of Parramatta. It was later purchased by the Campion Foundation.
The campus is adjacent to public transport routes and major motorways. The historic City of Parramatta is nearby, offering an array of services as well as cultural and entertainment opportunities. Sydney CBD is 30 km from the College.
The campus comprises 10 acres of wooded land, surrounded by a residential estate but sufficiently detached and tranquil for the purpose of nurturing a Catholic spiritual and intellectual life.
The campus, which is completely renovated, includes lecture halls, a chapel, library, kitchen and dining facilities. The college also has single and shared accommodation options for students living on campus.
Plans are being developed for a new library and dining hall.
For those interested in visiting the Toongabbie campus, you can request a visit via the website.
