BBI - The Australian Institute of Theological Education(BBI-TAITE) is Australia’s leading postgraduate institution for online theological education and caters for students interested in Catholic thought for both spiritual and practical purposes.
Our mission is to bridge the divide between faith, theology and life and in doing so, encourage all members of the community to apply Theology in our modern world and bring a meaning and purpose for everyday living.

Policies and Services
Admission criteria
Applicants with higher education study
To be eligible for entry to BBI-TAITE’s postgraduate awards / courses, you must meet the minimum requirement as follows:
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in any discipline from an approved tertiary education institution
Additionally, any individual award / course admission requirements must also be met.
Concurrent enrolment is also available and allows a student to undertake two awards / courses simultaneously. Concurrent enrolment is only available for applicants into the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education for students enrolled in a teaching degree with another institution. Please refer to BBI-TAITE’s Concurrent Enrolment Policy.
Recognition of prior learning
You may be entitled to academic credit or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) which would reduce the overall length of your award/course with BBI-TAITE.
Applicants with work and life experience
Employment experience
Admission may be considered on professional entry grounds where the applicant has an incomplete undergraduate degree and relevant experience of no less than 10 years.
Additional information
Domestic applications with overseas qualifications
International qualifications are assessed for equivalence to the AQF. Please note that applicants must meet individual award / course admission criteria.
English language requirements
International students studying online from their own country are required to have attained an International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) according to the admission criteria of each specified award as specified in the English Proficiency Policy.

Enrolment
Acceptance of offer
Successful applicants will receive a Confirmation of Enrolment directly through BBI-TAITE, including information on enrolment procedures.
Advanced standing
All BBI-TAITE's awards and courses are nested, meaning that they build on one another, ensuring that students receive credit for units previously accomplished. Students who have completed relevant study elsewhere may also be eligible for credit which would reduce the overall length of their award / course with BBI-TAITE.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may also be available based on your prior work experience.
Deferment
Deferment is available for all BBI-TAITE awards and courses for up to one year. Information is available in your Confirmation of Enrolment.
Fees and charges
All students must pay the tuition fee for each unit upfront. Alternatively, eligible Australian citizens may opt to apply for FEE-HELP.
Financial assistance
Students can apply for FEE-HELP, which is available to Australian citizens, eligible New Zealand citizens and holders of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa. This is repaid through the taxation system once your income is above the threshold. For more information on FEE-HELP, visit the Study Assist website.
