Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science)

Flinders University / Bedford Park Campus

Course Overview

Outline

Examine how natural processes and their changes impact human society, and how human activities interact with and modify environments. This multidisciplinary degree focuses on understanding, monitoring and improving the environment. Expand your knowledge, obtain skills, and learn critical thinking about environmental issues and problems.

The Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science) aims to provide students with a broad-based foundation in science together with specialisation in Environmental Science.

On completion of the degree students will be able to understand broadly the components (atmosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere) of the earth system, their functioning and interactions and demonstrate awareness of global environmental and climate changes, and understand the potential environmental consequences. Students will be able to demonstrate familiarity with and understand major environmental issues at the global, national and local scales including hydrological and/or ecosystem processes in catchments, and relevant environmental issues.

This degree prepares graduates for employment in various workplaces including private and public global organisations. Potential occupations may include environmental scientist, protection officer and education officer.

Expand your career options by combining this degree with the Bachelor of Archaeology (SATAC code 214021)

Combining degrees enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking a second area of study in addition to their primary degree. Completing an approved combined degree option will normally add at least one extra year (full-time equivalent) to their studies. For example, students combining two three-year full-time equivalent degrees are normally able to complete both degrees in four years of full-time equivalent study. Students graduate with two degrees, expanding employment opportunities. For further information visit www.flinders.edu.au/combined-degrees.

On completion of this degree there is an opportunity to apply for a one-year Honours degree. For further information visit www.flinders.edu.au/honours.
